Set yourself Apart

Set Yourself Apart

By Pastor Steven Hynes | April 19, 2020

Daniel is a person we can model our lives after. He held himself to a high standard, worked diligently, and didn’t waver in the face of opposition. This opened doors to promotions and persecution. You have an opportunity to set yourself apart in the workplace by the work you do and the way you carry ourselves. Let’s follow Daniel’s example.

Daniel 6:3

Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. 4 Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him. 5 Then these men said, “We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God.”

Would You be Missed?

You set yourself apart by the work that you do. Are you highly valued by your superiors? Would you be greatly missed if you left? That is the example that Daniel set. As Christians, our work ethic should be such that we are indefensible. While it may not go noticed and promotions may not follow we do our work for the glory of God. Each day we seek His guidance and provision to do the work we are given.

Stick to Your Principles

Daniel set himself apart, and for that, he wasn’t liked by his coworkers. We have a choice to make at work, do a good job or be liked by our coworkers, rarely can both be done. Daniel chose to do a good job. He was a man of integrity and values. This set him apart from his coworkers and they conspired to get rid of him. He stuck to his principles even at the cost of his life. God was faithful and delivered him from the Lions. We need to trust God in these situations and not fear what man can do to us. Just as the Apostle Paul said: “But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentile might hear it. And I was delivered from the lionʼs mouth.” 2 Timothy 4:17
